Nissan LEAF ZE1 (2020–2023) Radio Reconfiguration
This reconfiguration is compatible with Nissan LEAF ZE1 models with chassis numbers beginning ZE1-090000. It applies to the X and G specification models fitted with the factory Bosch infotainment system.
Note: This upgrade is not required for S specification models, as these can be fitted with a locally available aftermarket head unit.
Unlike earlier ZE1 X and G models, which used a Clarion audio system, 2020 onwards vehicles are equipped with a Bosch unit. While the Bosch system allows the display language to be changed to English, the radio remains restricted to Japanese FM frequencies.
Our reconfiguration permanently converts the radio for New Zealand use, providing several important benefits:
- Full New Zealand FM frequency coverage without the need for a band expander.
- Improved radio reception and signal quality compared with using a band expander.
- Displays the correct New Zealand radio station names.
- Disables the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system, eliminating the recurring “ETC not connected” messages.
- Retains Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, allowing you to use your preferred navigation apps such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze.
Navigation
The factory Japanese navigation system cannot be converted to New Zealand maps. However, this is rarely an issue, as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provide access to up-to-date navigation through your smartphone.

There are currently some limitations to the versions that can be successfully updated which include the very earliest version and the later 2024 onwards model is under development and should be available soon.
