Electric Vehicles

The team at Blue Cars have driven over 100,000 km in EVs and test-driven over a dozen different models around the world – twice as many as are presently available for sale in New Zealand. Of the models available here, the only one we recommend buying is the Nissan LEAF. With around 200,000 sold since 2011, the LEAF is the world’s top selling pure EV. We’re not surpised – it’s a great car and with relatively new imports available from $20,000 it’s great value too – remember you will save thousands on fuel!

Tesla Model S

Although considerably more expensive than a Nissan LEAF, the Tesla Model S is still great value for money and the only other electric car that we recommend. In every market Tesla enters, the Model S quickly rises to outselling all of the encumbant luxury car models from the likes of Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Porsche. Again, this is no surprise – the Tesla Model S has the highest consumer satisfaction rating of any car in the world.

Tesla Motors doesn’t sell cars in New Zealand, but they do help Kiwi customers buy the Model S via Australia. Have a look at the check-list on our support page for details of this process. The details below are listed both for comparison and for anybody who might want to consider a Model S for their next vehicle.

Electric Vehicles – Clean, Quiet & Powerful!

Charging Solutions

Check out our support page for a detailed description of an EV charging circuit. In short, EVs will normally be supplied with a mobile EVSE – a cable to connect your electric car to a power supply. To compliment this, you may want to consider installing a higher powered wall-mounted EVSE at home or the office for quicker and easier charging. If you will be traveling around a lot with your EV, you may want to consider a different mobile EVSE and/or an adapter to increase the range of places you can charge.
